Boulware IDEA Place

College of Education - Louisiana Tech University

Located in the College of Education, the newly renovated Idea Place now brings 21st Century Learning to Louisiana Tech University’s campus. The approximately 50 x 70 space offers maximum flexibility and function. YWA was tasked with helping to establish a new program, procure funding, and design the to be renovated space. The space now allows the user maximum flexibility by including a 30 foot long by 10 foot high moveable glass wall, eight foot tall fully marker board surface storage cabinets, and an open floor plan concept. All aspects of STEAM were brought into the design of the space. Science is provided by incorporating sinks into millwork for wet lab use. Technology is provided in the form of WIFI and hardwired data wall and floor connections throughout the space. Beams and columns were left exposed to showcase the Engineering of the space. Art and Math took on the form of geometrical designs in the acoustical wall panels, ceiling clouds, ceiling grids, and floor pattern. The exposed ductwork and lights help draw the children’s head up and pique curiosity. The STEAM classrooms are not only functional but can be used as teaching tools.
